Five cheap things to do in Las Vegas
When most people think of Las Vegas, they think of long nights, a lot of drinks and a lot of gambling. What if you want to go to Las Vegas, but think that you don't have the money to have a good time? Fear not, I'm going to give five suggestions that are fun and easy on the money book.
Most people will tell you that if you are short on money you should check out the fountains at Bellagio, or the volcano at the Mirage, or perhaps the pirate show at Treasure Island. These are all great suggestions, but I'm going to give you a few that are often over looked and off the beaten track.
5. Las Vegas 51's Baseball/ Las Vegas Wranglers Hockey Did you know that Las Vegas was home to a AAA baseball club and an ECHL hockey team? The locals obviously do, but not many people who visit know this. The 51's used to be affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers, however this year they will feed into the Toranto Blue Jays. Cashman Field, located at 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Las Vegas, NV. is not that far of a cab ride from downtown Freemont St. and with tickets starting as low as $9 you can't go wrong. The stadium is cozy and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Plus, almost every night the organization runs some type of promotion from fireworks night, to value menu Mondays to my favorite thirsty Thursdays, which to most people is known as $1 beer night.
For you folks that go to Las Vegas in the winter time or hockey season well I say check out the Las Vegas Wranglers. The New Orleans Arena is located at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, Nv. , that's only 1 mile from the strip!Tickets can be found for as low as $12 and they too have some great promotion nights.
4. Rio Masquerade Show In The Sky Okay most people know about this show but it is worth the mention. It is located at the Rio, 3700 W. Flamingo Rd. Las Vegas, NV. In case you don't know what the show is all about, it is a somewhat family friendly Mardi Gras type show with floats that move on track located on the ceiling of the casino. It is located in the Masquerade Village area of the casino and features three different shows. The fun part, and the part that many do not know is, for $12. 95 you can ride one of the floats during a performance. Cheesy? Yes, but hey, it's Vegas and it's cheap. Shows are from Thursday to Sunday, dark on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.
3. The Pinball Hall Of Fame Yes, that's right, a pinball museum, well of sorts. It's located on 3330 E. Tropicana Blvd. Las Vegas, NV. It's about a 15 minute drive from the strip. I've been there, and loved it. Now, it is in a strip mall and located in a store front but don't let this scare you off. It houses an amazing amount of pinball machines from the 1950's to now and you can play as many of them as you like for a few quarters. You will be surprised how time flies while you try to win a free game!
2. Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns hands down the BEST live act you will see in Las Vegas and they are FREE! The band plays every Monday night at 10:30 pm at the Palms Casino, located on 4321 West Flamingo Rd. Las Vegas, NV. The band features a 6 piece horn section, and an 8 piece rhythm section that includes 4 lead singers. This band is NOT a cheesy lounge act, they are serious musicians that have honed their craft. They often times have drop ins who show up, jump on stage and play along. Most times it's a well known person. If you like, funk, soul, jazz, rock and prog rock all rolled into one, then this is your band. Do get there early because they fill the place up, I'm talking standing room only.
1. Ellis Island Casino Restaurant and Barbecue I know, you're thinking, with all those great places to eat in Las Vegas, why go to some local joint I've never heard of? Well, I'm going to tell you why, all though I'm not sure if the locals will be happy! At the Restaurant in this local small casino, you will find that they serve an everyday special, a center cut steak, two sides, salad and drink for $6.99. Before you balk at it, let me tell you from experience, this isn't a cheap cut of steak, I really mean center cut. Don't let the price full you, I guarantee you will walk away shocked. Get there early or make a reservation because the line gets long. If steak is not your think and you are really in to barbecue then walk across the casino floor, it isn't that big, to their barbecue and brewery. You can get a full rack of ribs for $9.00 and it's also top quality, also they usually run specials on a few of their home brews. Not bad for a tiny place off the strip. In case you would like to try it out, they are located on 4178 Koval Lane, Las Vegas, NV., it is a one block walk from the strip.
If you are felling really daring then after dinner, check out their karaoke bar. Even if you don't sing, you will be treated to people who do. This happens to be a popular bar that the local strip performers go to when they are dark that night. You'll hear some great voices belting it out, no doubt.

Good piece. I went to a 51s game a couple of years ago. The team wasn't that good (they lost the game), but I still had a blast!
I am currently planning a trip to Las Vegas and I will definitely keep these ideas in mind. Thank you!
